This short hands-on program prepares individuals to work as building supers and handyman. Students will learn the essential skills needed to maintain a small residential building. Topics include plumbing, electrical, tiling, plaster/drywall, as well as essential communication skills for working with tenants and outside contractors. This lecture and hands-on-training class are designed to prepare you for work as am in-house super. Students will receive a certificate of completion that may be presented as evidence of having met the educational requirements to work as a competent building super.
Peter Grech, a longtime member of Superintendents Technical Association, is the instructor for this class.
We have excellent labs where students can take apart and put together toilets, faucets, locks, wire outlets, sweat pipes as well as learn to plaster, set tile and perform the everyday tasks of a resident super. Peter will also be discussing bedbugs and rats and the workings of heating systems. This is an extremely hands-on class! Although HPD does not currently ask for the certificate of competency, it's our belief that supers must be very competent- and must have the people skills to work with residents and outside contractors.
