This short hands-on program prepares individuals to work as building supers and handyman. Students will learn the essential skills needed to maintain a small residential building. Topics include plumbing, electrical, tiling, plaster/drywall, as well as essential communication skills for working with tenants and outside contractors. This lecture and hands-on-training class are designed to prepare you for work as an in-house super. Students will receive a certificate of completion that may be presented as evidence of having met the educational requirements to work as a competent building super.
Students will learn to repair toilets and faucets, install locks, wire outlets, plaster, set tile and perform the everyday tasks of a resident super. THe class also covers NYC pest control requirements(bedbugs and rats) and the workings of heating systems. This is an extremely hands-on class! Although HPD does not currently ask for the certificate of competency, it's our belief that supers must be very competent- and must have the people skills to work with residents and outside contractors.
