Medical Assistant Certificate Training
Prerequisite: High school diploma
Covered Costs: Tuition, Text Books, and CCMA exam
The Medical Assistant Certificate training program, is offered jointly by the New York City College of Technology Division of Continuing Education (City Tech) and Kingsborough Community College Office of Continuing Education. Students will be prepared to sit for the Certified Medical Assistant Certification Exam (CCMA) given by the National Healthcareer Association (NHA). The program will take place at City Tech, which is conveniently located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn, a major public transportation hub.
Employment of medical assistants is projected to grow 29 percent by 2026,much faster than the average for all occupations. The growth of the aging baby-boom population will continue to increase demand for preventive medical services. As a result, physicians will hire more assistants to perform routine administrative and clinical duties, allowing the physicians to see more patients.
Anatomy and Physiology, 60 hours
Basic Patient Care Skills and Medical Law, 60 hours
Diagnostic Tests, 60 hours
Certified Electronic Health Records , 60 hours
Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers , 7 hours
EKG/ECG, 60 hours
Phlebotomy Procedures, 42 hours (didactic), 18 hours (Lab component completed within four, 4 ½ hours sessions)
