Course Description

This course introduces students to the concepts and technologies underlying the interchange of information between computers and exposes them to the standards and protocols that govern the implementation and use of local area networks (LANs), private computer networks, intranets, and the worldwide network of networks known as the “Internet.” The concepts and use of electronic mail, remote computer log in, file transfer protocol, and the global information network known as the World Wide Web are discussed. Examples of these functions are provided throughout the course. Students who successfully complete this course will be prepared to take the CompTIA Network+ Certification Exam.

Net+ Certification is an essential preparation for the Security+ certification.

Objectives
Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to demonstrate an ability to:

  • Identify and implement different network topologies
  • Differentiate between the OSI and DOD communications models
  • Analyze and create multiple logical IP subnets
  • Use standard cabling tools to implement a UTP cabling system/network
  • Set up a peer to peer network using client operating systems
  • Identify and troubleshoot networking problems
