This course has two components. First, it is a basic refresher of pre-algebra and simple algebra for individuals in the medical field who have been out of high school and college that require math on the job from nurses, to pharmacy staff, from lab assistants to hospital administrators. The Second component is focused on Medical Math scenarios and how to use math that is vital in the medical field even without a medical degree: medication calculations, dosages, building proficiencies under the pressure of urgent care.
In addition, the class covers computations and measurements in the health science professional fields with an emphasis on nursing and hospital math. Topics include units and systems of measurement, reconstitution of powdered medications, oral and prenatal dosage calculations, adult and pediatric dosage calculations based on body weight, intravenous calculations, basic patient statistics, and pediatric medication calculations.
